White jeans are an all-year long staple – pair them with neutral sand colors and light booties in the cold weather, add bright colors and pattern in the summer.
Do you love them or hate them? Odds are, if you hate them, it’s because you haven’t found the right pair. Here I’m showing 6 different pairs that I tried on and shared each of their pros and cons. Scroll all the way for my top two personal favorites!
Many of my clients give me a look of fear when I suggest they add a pair of white jeans to their closet. Even if you’re scared, you can do it! Just try on lot of pairs (sometimes more than you think you need to!) to figure out what fits and cuts flatter you best.
Things to consider as you look for your perfect pair:
A wide leg and boot cut will balance out of full hip
·You can’t go wrong with a straight leg - cuff the bottoms to bring it in even further if you like a more tailored look
The cropped look is in - if they are a little too long, cut them yourself (carefully!) for a raw hem look at the perfect length
A little stretch goes a long way. Too much stretch may mean the fabric is thin and will show every lump and bump. It may also mean they will be too big and baggy by the end of the day. Sometimes you should size up if this is the case!
Rigid denim with no stretch a.k.a. 100% cotton is not super flattering, and if you are at the top of you size like I am, they will be uncomfortable
I like a bit of distressing in my white jeans. It adds the “texture” in the color, pattern, texture & shine formula I love so much. Also, if you stick with slight distressing (versus a huge whole in the knee/s, you can dress them up easier
Frayed hems are good! (more texture)
Button fly jeans aren’t great for those of us with a tummy (they add bulk)
Levi’s Wedgie straight jeans in Cloud Bank, $98
Pros: great fit, snug through hips and thighs, raw bottom hem
Cons: Too much distressing for my taste and due to the size of the knee holes, could rip even more.
Button fly creates bulk, 100% cotton so no stretch at all
Gap Sky High Rise Cheeky Straight in White Destroy, $71 (on sale)
Pros: just enough distressing, good price
Cons: “low stretch” at 99% cotton, very high rise for a petite (5’4” and under) like me - can cause bunching in the zipper area
American Eagle 90’s Straight Jean in Cool White, $59.95
Pros: short, regular, and long lengths available
Cons: Hole in the knee is huge – I stuck my foot through it every time, so it could tear more/become larger, no stretch
Articles of Society Skinny jeans, $64 - Similar pair here
Pros: Stretchy, comfortable, nice amount of distressing
Cons: Skinny fit looks a bit rippled and wrinkly when tried on
MY RUNNER UP FAVORITES! Gap High Rise Kick Fit Jeans, $79.95
Pros: stretchy and ridiculously comfortable!
Cons: possible too stretchy (only 78% cotton) – might bag out. Sizing down might help. No distressing.
MY #1 FAVORITES! Kut from the Kloth Reese Fab Ab Distressed High Rise, $92
Pros: stretch but still have structure, just enough distressing
Cons: they run big. Go one size down! (not a con for many of you, I know;)
